MISSING: Sophia Van Dam (20) and her 2-year-old son Matteo Van Dam
Last seen: June 22, 2023 – Beaufort & Sumter, South Carolina
It has now been over 10 months since Sophia Van Dam and her little boy, Matteo, vanished without a trace. They were last seen on June 22, 2023, shortly after Sophia moved back to Beaufort to live with her mother following a domestic incident involving her boyfriend in Sumter, South Carolina.
According to her mother, Sophia wasn’t thinking clearly and seemed to leave suddenly with Matteo that day. When her mother woke up, both of them were gone — along with all of their belongings. Just four days later, Sophia’s car was found abandoned back in Sumter, but there was no sign of her or her son.
Sophia is 5’10”, about 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Matteo has black hair and brown eyes. Family and law enforcement are extremely concerned for their well-being.
Multiple agencies are actively involved in the search, including the FBI, Sumter Police, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, and SLED.
